I’ve decided to do a completely non-bias review on the product Syntha-6 released by the company BSN. Syntha-6 is a sustained released protein blend incorporating 6 different protein sources into their formula. I will try to be as helpful and informative as I can throughout my review but if I have missed anything or if you have any comments/questions please do so at the bottom of the page.
SYNTHA-6 RATING
Overall, I rate Syntha-6 an 8/10.
Arguably one of the best tasting protein products on the market making it suitable for anybody who has had some bad experiences with taste and mix ability. Formula fills the needs for pre-bed and/or throughout the day use.
Buying Syntha-6 Online
I recommend that you buy your protein supplements online, as you will find Syntha-6 is much cheaper at an online supplement site then in stores. Top 2 online supplement stores below:
#1 – www.MuscleandStrength.com (cheaper shipping) – Price = $31.49 (Retails for $52.99)
#2 – www.BodyBuilding.com - Price = $29.99 (Retails for $52.99)
“So what is Syntha-6?”
BSN Syntha-6 is a powdered, multi- protein blend that is much more ideal for throughout the day use and/or pre bed use than post-workout. Syntha-6 was built and designed to be a sustained release protein blend to break down in the body at a much slower rate to keep the muscle’s anabolic for a much longer period than a pure whey isolate or hydrolyzed product.
Each 200 calorie scoop contains 6 different types protein sources comprising of 2 whey’s, 3 casein based and 1 egg isolate, with the most abundant source being whey concentrate. Utilizing a blend such as this will lead to much longer absorption through the system making it not ideal for post-workout use. Many clients and friends of mine in the past have used this post-workout with the assumption that “it will absorb fast and stay in the system longer too”. But this is incorrect, a most abundant whey isolate blend you could make the argument for a versatile post-workout/throughout the day use product such as Magnum Quattro or Nutrabolics ISOBOLIC but BSN’s Syntha-6 should strictly be looked at as a non-post workout light meal replacement blend. I say light meal replacement because it contains 13 carbohydrates and 6g of fat per scoop with 5g of the carbohydrates coming from fiber. The healthy fats and fiber addition also supports slower digestion on top of the already medium to slow protein sources in the blend.
Now that we know it shouldn’t be used post-workout, I can tell you that I really like this product. It mixes up great and offers taste comparable with the upper echelon of the entire protein market. Every flavour I have tried has been fantastic and a real treat to have. I found two scoops in 10-14oz of water to be the sweet spot.
For females, I would recommend taking one scoop of this product as a light meal replacement anytime of the day.
For males, I would recommend you use this as a lean mass gainer. This is a product that you can replace your typical whey concentrate with on your mass phases. A little extra carbs and fat in there to help you throw on that size and support the hard training you are doing without an overload of macros like other heavy gainers offer. So depending on how your diet looks and how much daily protein you are already receiving from powder, you can easily incorporate Syntha-6 into a lean mass phase.
